Most truck drivers reach a point where the question isn’t Can I do this job? It’s What do I want this job to look like next?
Sometimes that means hauling different freight. Sometimes it’s a schedule that fits life better than the one you started with. For others, it means learning new parts of the industry or eventually running their own truck.
At Roehl, the idea behind the Start. Drive. Grow. Thrive. philosophy is simple: a CDL-A career shouldn’t have a ceiling. Drivers should be able to start strong, keep building experience, grow into new opportunities, and eventually thrive at the highest level of their job — all without having to start over somewhere else.
Driving careers change over time, and Roehl is structured to change with them.
Different Freight, Different Paths
Not every truck driver wants to haul the same type of freight for their entire career. Some drivers prefer the steady rhythm of dry van freight. Others enjoy the hands-on work that comes with flatbed. Some drivers value the consistency that dedicated routes can provide.
Roehl operates several major divisions, including:
· Dry Van
· Flatbed
· Refrigerated
· Curtainside
· Dedicated fleets
Many drivers start their Roehl careers in one division and spend time building experience there. Over time, though, priorities sometimes shift. Moving into a different division allows CDL-A drivers to drive their skills forward while learning a new part of the industry — without leaving the company and starting over.
For drivers who want to expand their experience over time, having those options matters.
Route Options That Fit Real Life
A schedule that worked five years ago may not work today. That doesn’t mean someone is done driving — it usually means they need a different structure.
Roehl offers several route and home time structures, including:
• OTR (11–14 days out, 3 days home — with options to stay out longer and take up to 7 days home)
• Home Weekly regional routes (plus some dedicated fleets with weekly home time)
• HOMEtime PLUS™ schedules, such as 14/7, 7/4–7/3, and 7/7
• Home Daily local positions, most based out of terminals
Some HOMEtime PLUS fleets can provide up to 26 weeks off per year. For drivers who want more time at home without stepping away from the road entirely, that kind of structure can make a meaningful difference.
The goal is simple: drivers should be able to grow their career without sacrificing the life they’re building outside the truck.
Pay That Accounts for More Than Just Miles
Experienced truck drivers know that mileage alone doesn’t tell the full story of how a pay plan works.
Roehl uses Dynamic Pay Plans to better reward drivers for their time and performance. Depending on the fleet and type of freight, drivers may receive extra pay for:
· Detention time
· Layover
· Tarping and untarping (flatbed)
Roehl also uses address-to-address practical route miles, meaning drivers are paid for more of the miles they actually drive.
As of December 2025, Roehl drivers with at least one year on the job are averaging $1,345 per week (nearly $70,000 per year), while the top 50% average $1,525 per week (nearly $80,000 per year).
Strong pay structures help experienced drivers thrive as they build long-term careers.
Programs That Let Drivers Bring Part of Home With Them
Time on the road is part of the job. For some drivers, being able to bring someone along can make that time easier.
Roehl offers two programs that allow drivers to do that:
• Passenger Program – drivers can bring a spouse, family member, significant other, or friend along for a trip
• Pet Passport Program – drivers can bring a dog or cat in the truck
These programs don’t change the job itself, but they can make life on the road feel more comfortable — especially during longer stretches away from home.
A Path Toward Truck Ownership
For some drivers, wanting more eventually means running their own truck.
Roehl’s B.O.S.S. program (Business Ownership Support System) is designed for drivers who want to transition from company driver to owner operator while receiving guidance along the way. The program includes:
· Business ownership training through Roehl Youniversity
· Guidance on business structure, including help establishing an LLC through legal partners
· Lease-purchase options
· Advisors who help drivers focus on loads that support their business goals
Roehl also offers an Earned Down Payment Program for drivers with at least one year of experience. Drivers begin as company drivers while completing owner operator coursework, and after 90 days they may be eligible to transition into a truck with an earned down payment (a $1,500 value).
For drivers who want to grow beyond driving and build a business, that structure provides a clear path forward.
More Doesn’t Have to Mean Starting Over
Driving careers rarely move in a straight line. Priorities change. Freight preferences change. Schedules that once worked may stop fitting later on.
That’s why Roehl built its operation around a simple idea: drivers should be able to start their career here, drive their skills forward, grow into new opportunities, and ultimately thrive at the highest level of their job.
Multiple divisions, varied home time structures, pay plans that reflect real work, and long-term career programs allow drivers to continue building their careers without constantly resetting.
