Veterans Day is a time to recognize the people who have served in our nation’s Armed Forces. At Roehl Transport, we take this day to thank the veterans on our team—as well as veterans across the country—for their service and the impact they continue to have on our communities, workplaces, and families.
Veterans bring knowledge, patience, responsibility, and the ability to stay steady when things are challenging. Those qualities matter in trucking, and they’re part of why veterans are such an important part of TeamRoehl.
Support for Military Communities
Listen to a story on our podcast, Keeping It Roehl, that featured experienced driver recruiter Melissa Simmons, who played a role in coordinating a load delivered to support the Camp Toccoa Military Veteran Project. The project works to preserve the history of the soldiers who trained at Camp Toccoa. Helping move materials for that effort was a simple but meaningful way to support a community connected to military history.
It’s one example of how people at Roehl stay connected to service—even outside of the military.
Why Many Veterans Find a Good Fit in Trucking
Many veterans choose trucking after service because the structure of the job feels familiar in a practical way. It’s steady work with clear expectations, measurable goals, and the chance to take responsibility for something important.
Veterans often bring:
· Situational awareness – being able to read the environment, stay alert, and make safe decisions.
· Comfort working independently – trucking often requires long stretches of time managing tasks on your own.
· Experience following procedures and safety protocols – this translates directly to operating a commercial vehicle safely.
· Reliable communication – staying in contact, giving accurate updates, and working respectfully with others.
· Resilience – the ability to handle schedule changes, varied conditions, and solve problems calmly.
Trucking also allows for:
· Clear progression — skill, consistency, and performance are visible and rewarded.
· A sense of purpose — drivers keep goods moving across the country; the work matters.
· A stable career path — something many people look for when transitioning out of the military.
At Roehl, that journey often aligns perfectly with our promise: Start strong. Drive with purpose. Grow your skills. Thrive in your career.
For many veterans, Roehl offers more than a job—it’s a place to Start. Drive. Grow. Thrive.
Our Commitment
Roehl Transport has been named a Military Friendly® Employer by the publishers of GI Jobs and Military Spouse magazines. 2026 is our 13th consecutive time receiving this award, and this year we earned their Top 10 distinction. The award is based on the programs and support we offer to current and former service members.
Some of the ways we continually support veterans include:
· Roehl Honor Program™ — recognizing the military service of our teammates.
· Two-Year Apprenticeship Program — approved by the U.S. Departments of Labor and Veterans Affairs, including support for using Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits while learning the job.
· Military Skills Test Waiver support — helping service members convert military driving experience to a civilian CDL role.
· Participation in ESGR (Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve) — supporting employees who continue their service in the Guard and Reserve.
· Support for Wreaths Across America — hauling wreaths to cemeteries to honor fallen veterans each year.
· Transition Trucking — a national competition for America’s top military rookie driver. Roehl has had a top 10 finalist every year we’ve entered the competition, and of those driving teammates, we’ve had an overall winner, 2 first-runner ups and another driving teammate who finished in the top 3.
These programs are not just about hiring veterans—they are about making sure veterans have a place to develop a long-term career if they choose trucking.
